Good Day to All,
We are happy to have this opportunity to share the news of what is happening at our wonderful, engaging site with a plethora of delightful animals! It is truly amazing how all the animals interrelate with one another. We are always wishing that this was true for humans as well! However, the nature of the different species interactions always bring joy to us.
Mila, a Great Dane/Mastiff and Dolly, a rescued Saint Bernard, collaborate with three of the rescue cats, which are Boo, Nala, and Simba. They run in the yard and seem contented to know we all interact with them. Sometimes, there is some jealousy, such as” pushing for pats,” that occurs. Likewise, horses, a pony, and donkeys vie for attention as well. Interestingly, often in the barn aisles, they seem to position themselves, passing through, and it seems like they are greeting one another.
The rescued pot-bellied pigs also engage with all as well. The are known to be “smarter” than dogs and are very aware of interacting humans. Wanda and Maryann have a wonderful, penned area with their very own shed, loaded with comfy blankets and pillows. For over a year, they have shared their little water pools and house, with a sweet, rescued baby lamb, Nash. Recently a wonderful Flemish rabbit, Thumper, joined the “crew” and is tolerated by all. Wanda and Maryann are quite exceptionally aware when it comes to other animals and even seem to have a sense of “grieving.”
Eight days ago, sweet Nash, who had been experiencing health issues for a very long time, was put to sleep. It has been a horribly sad event for clients and us, and especially for Wanda and Maryann. Nash had this incredible pattern of sharing treats with them, running when they did, and resting when they did. We would joke about how Nash really thought he was a pig!
Kate rescued Nash when she was using a wheelchair briefly, and for a while, Nash thought her wheelchair was part of his new “mom.” Nash was dearly dedicated to being with Kate. Nash was so special to all, because he just enjoyed being petted, playing with his “pig pen girlfriends” and always “baaing” when he saw anyone, other animals or humans! One client described him as so accepting. And he was. His gentleness is sorely missed.
Eight days ago, Wanda, Maryann, and Nash all went in the trailer to the veterinarian. When Nash did not enter to come back, it seemed for all, especially his girlfriends, a great loss. The next day, Wanda and Maryann did not eat much and slept a lot. Even today, although they are eating again, they sit and lay down by the side of pen, in view of the trailer.
We all know that losing a pet is extremely difficult and this was no exception. We are grateful we had the opportunity to love and care for him and each day, we remember something we learned from Nash, from his resilience, ability to interact with people and other animals, to his gentle gifts of joy.
Please reach out to your animal(s) today and think of sweet Nash.
Kate and Sandy
